jacksonnews.JPG (381654 bytes)  L to R: Jafer Beizer, Chase Dickens and Tyler Waters share the champagne at Jackson..

Trek South Eastern Regional Championship series #7 / Cannondale Georgia State Championship series #5- Dauset Trails - Jackson, Ga 6-12/13-10: Finally a dry event for a change but it seems we traded dry for hot and humid, still a good bargain I think.  With the heat index hovering at 105 degrees the racers took to the bonus time trial with all they had as the SERC riders were vying for valuable points on the short 4.5 mile course on Saturday.  Sunday was just as hot and although the first wave of riders got to ride the whole course, the second wave was shortened to make the event more bearable to the longer races.  Atlanta Trek was the round sponsor and they did a great job of providing all of the prizes to the athletes.  Club OMBA out of Macon manned the water stations and were much appreciated. Congratulations to all of the competitors and especially to Thomas Turner and Kimberly Flynn  who were the top male and female riders on the day,

Trek South Eastern Regional Championship series #6 - Ocoee Whitewater Center - Ducktown, TN 5-16-10: The famous Tanasi trail system was the 6th stop on the SERC tour and although rain fell on Saturday the course was in pretty good shape right up until start of the second wave at 11:30 when the skies once again opened up and made the last wave a bit on the sloppy side.  The course is considered a climbers course as the first 6 miles are basically up and the last 5 are down or flat.  Many thanks to all of the sponsors that made it a success, especially Scott's Bikes. (located in nearby Cleveland, TN).  The top racers on the day were again Thomas Turner (men’s pro) and Kim Flynn (women’s pro), congrats to all that raced!  An added bonus as well was the $400 TXTsignal.com fast lap prem that went to Thomas Turner and Kim Flynn as well.

Hammer Head 100 mile - Greenway Trails - Ocala, FL 5-8-10:  The day started out nice with a slight breeze and overcast but became increasing like a typical Florida summer day later on, hot and humid.  The trails were in good shape thanks to some rain on Wednesday and the work of some of the trail volunteers.  The event which is in it's second year saw the attendance shoot up 35% for a total of 221 riders.  The racers had a choice of a 25 mile option (one loop), a 50 mile option or the "Full Monty" of 100 miles, the last Full Monty on the day was Kyle Gibbs which nabbed him 21st place out of 50.  David Wood took the 100 mile win with an average speed of 13.7 miles per hour and Michelle Allgire was the top female 100 miler, both shared a big slice of the Michelob Ultra prize purse.  Many thanks to all of our sponsors for all of the support and prizes for the racers, thanks as well to OMBA (the Ocala Mountain Bike Association) for all of the hard work in building and maintaining the trail system.  Congratulations to all the competitors!

huntnews.jpg (212705 bytes)   Thomas Turner takes another win in Huntsville.

Trek South Eastern Regional Championship series #5 - Monte Sano State Park - Huntsville, AL 5-2-10: What a great race despite the weather threats, as everything to the West and North of Huntsville was getting pounded by the storms and flooding the event went off perfectly until the last lap of the expert race, when the skies opened up and downpour began.  The course was a very challenging 9.4 mile loop around the mountain and  had a good mix of fast, technical, uphill, downhills and even a one mile road climb near the end, the feedback from the riders was very positive, with many saying it was a good test of an all around racerT  Many thanks to all of the sponsors that made it happen, especially Bicycles Etc. (located at the base of the mountain).  Also we had a few local business step up and provide some great prem’s ($700 worth to be exact), they were Oral Art Dentstry Lab and Nisan Therapy.  Thanks as well to SORBA Huntsville for building, maintaining and working the event, everything was top notch!  The top racers on the day were Thomas Turner (men’s pro) and Kim Flynn (women’s pro), congrats to all that raced!
