2017 Coconut Cup #5 - 1-29-17 - Quiet Water Park Trails - Deerfield Bch, Fl
Well Saturday was great weather, unfortunately the race was Sunday and the series return to the park after more than a decade (due to hurricane damage in 2005) was dampened a little by an unusual cold front that brought cold wet conditions to the racers that braved the elements.ÂÂ On the bright side it was proably the best course to ride in the rain and the turnout was suprisingly good considering the weather.
The 6.9 mile course was a challenge as the route twists and turns through ancient coral beds and has a number of man made features to spice things up a bit as well.ÂÂ Many thanks to Bike America for sponsoring the event and to all of the dedicated volunteers that not only preped the course but worked all day in the rain to help keep the riders safe and on track.ÂÂ Bala Almeida took a strong win in the expert 19-39 class while Erica Zaboor was the women's winner.

2017 Coconut Cup #4 - 1-15-17 - Virginia Key Trails - Miami, Fl
What a better place to hold a bike race in the middle of January, right off the port of Miami and Key Biscane! The weather, the trails, the atmosphere was simply awesome and thanks to the Virginia Key Bicycle Club for all of their efforts with trail building and support. The round sponsor was the Miami Bike shop.com which meant they handed out several thousand dollars worth of prizes to the medalists as they have every year since we have been there, many thanks!
The 6.5 mile course had a couple new twists and a new section that featured some challenging drops and steep climbs and the fastest lap of the day was 25:25 set by elite winner Daniel Hidalgo in the expert 19-39 class. Simone Berger rose to the top in the women's field despite some new competition.
The Protano Law $50 holeshot went to Bob McCarty in the 40-49 expert class. It looks like the new is off to a great start, next race is at Quiet Waters park in Deerfield Beach.
